«About the Band»
The band Ages was formed during the harsh winter of 2011 in the city of Falun, Dalarna region, Sweden. The founding members were two musicians with prior experience in other metal projects: Daniel Beckman (also known as Eldhrimnir and Blackwald), who had previously played in Evangeli, Magog and Slumber and was already involved in Twilight Force at that time, and Andreas Olander (known as Hvergelmer), who also had experience with Evangeli, Magog and Volturyon. Soon, they were joined by bassist Brice Leclercq (known for his work with the legendary Dissection as well as Nightrage and Satyricon (as a session musician)).
From the very beginning, the band established itself within the Melodic Black Metal genre, drawing inspiration from the Swedish extreme metal scene while adding their own vision. Their lyrical themes revolve around anti-religious motifs, nature, and existential questions. In the same year of its formation, Ages released three digital singles: “From the Ashes of Time”, “Absent Tribulation” and “At the Behest of Reason”, showcasing their potential and direction.

After several years of silence, in 2015, the band released their long-awaited debut full-length album titled The Malefic Miasma. This release cemented their style, combining the cold aggression of black metal with expressive melodies, atmospheric keyboard arrangements, and elements reminiscent of the heritage of the Swedish melodic extreme scene. The album received positive reviews in underground circles and introduced Ages as a serious player in the melodic black metal scene. The lyrical themes touched on anti-religion, nature, and existential topics. Despite the quality of the material, the album may have been somewhat underrated at the time of its release.
In the following years, the band worked on new material. In 2019, bassist Brice Leclercq left the lineup. The reasons for his departure were not publicly detailed, and Ages continued as a duo, with Andreas Olander taking over bass duties in the studio alongside his primary roles of vocals and guitars. Daniel Beckman was responsible for keyboards, programming, and additional instruments, including violin and oud (a plucked string instrument), as well as backing vocals.

In August 2020, the band's second full-length album, Uncrown, was released under the label Black Lodge Records. This album showcased further evolution in Ages' style. Reviewers noted the high production quality, masterful blending of black metal foundations with rich melodies, atmospheric synths, and epic arrangements. The music was described as both icy and majestic, with well-crafted compositions. Some critics pointed out that the album might sound “smooth” or less raw compared to traditional black metal, but at the same time, they highly praised its musicality and atmosphere. Uncrown solidified Ages' reputation as masters of melodic black metal.
The band's music and sound evoke a sense of vengeance and rebellion, with their song atmosphere filled with fury and retribution. Ages can be characterized as leaders of a new era, calling for the rejection of outdated beliefs and the beginning of a new time for humanity. The influence of the members' previous bands is evident: the melodic aspect of the Swedish scene (including the legacy of Dissection through Leclercq’s early involvement), and the atmospheric elements brought by Beckman from his experience in Slumber and Twilight Force.
Following the release of Uncrown, Ages continues to operate as a duo consisting of Daniel Beckman and Andreas Olander. Although no major new releases have been announced since 2020, the band is considered active. Ages holds its niche in modern Swedish metal, offering listeners high-quality and atmospheric Melodic Black Metal.
