Biography

Alexandra Sidorova - a Russian vocalist, lyricist, and participant in several folk and metal projects. In recent years, her name has been primarily associated with the band «Meshchera», where she has been performing since 2022. Her work combines academic vocal technique, folk imagery, and the aesthetics of heavy music. Within «Meshchera», she is known not only as a performer but also as one of the members shaping the lyrical, emotional, and atmospheric aspects of the material.

Early years and education

She was born on November 30, 1990, in Moscow. Her interest in music appeared in childhood and was initially connected with the piano: the desire to study music arose after she saw a four-hands performance. At the age of ten, she decided to pursue music seriously, enrolled in a music school, and completed it in three years. Initially, she considered becoming a pianist, but later chose conducting, which allowed her to develop both instrumental skills and singing simultaneously.

She continued her education at a music college and later at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she specialized in choral conducting. This academic background became the foundation of her further work as a singer and choirmaster. Classical training enabled her to build strong vocal technique, maintain control over her voice, and sustain a professional level even in heavier genres. Academic music became a solid base in her biography, helping her preserve both technique and vocal health.

An important part of her training was also her contact with church choral tradition. Classical education included the study of sacred music, and during her studies she performed with choirs in various churches, including both Orthodox and Catholic ones. This experience complemented the academic side of her background and became part of the discipline and vocal culture that later shaped her work in folk and metal projects.

Beginning of musical activity

A distinctive feature of Alexandra’s creative path is that academic music and the underground developed in parallel from the very beginning. During her time at music college, she joined her first band, and while studying at the conservatory, studio and live activity went hand in hand with academic training. Classical music and the underground were not opposed to each other but developed side by side: academic training helped refine technique, while work in heavy music encouraged her to expand her performance capabilities.

Her musical activity can be traced back to the late 2000s. Her discography includes participation in projects such as «Valley of the Moon», «Delirium», «Morbid Violence», «Rarog», «Imperial Age», «Sky Too High», «Grailight», «Zmey Gorynich», and others. This multi-project involvement shows that her career developed not within a single band but as a long-term movement across several related scenes - from folk and pagan metal to symphonic metal and adjacent styles.

One of the most notable stages of her early and mid-career was her participation in «Rarog», which she joined during her studies. With this band came her first professional recordings, several albums, and active touring across Russia. It was also within this context that she began experimenting with non-academic vocal techniques. Folk singing was not part of her formal training: she was primarily formed as a classical musician with a tendency toward operatic tradition. Folk, speech-based, pop, and extreme vocal techniques - including scream, distortion, and others - were освоed independently, largely through studio experimentation.

Projects outside «Meshchera»

A special place in Alexandra’s biography is occupied by the project «Smorodina Reka», active since 2019. It was founded together with Alexey Vinogradov and Anna Yerilina. The project is based on Russian folklore, mythological imagery, and a fusion of Russian and northern musical traditions. The name itself refers to the Smorodina River from East Slavic mythology, while the musical concept is built on epic scope, acoustic foundations, and the imagery of folk texts. This project also reveals Alexandra as an independent author: she participates not only as a vocalist but also as someone working with the lyrical and conceptual side of the material.

At the same time, Alexandra continued working with other bands, including Grailight, Zmey Gorynich, Sky Too High, as well as various guest projects. A significant role in her career was played by her work with the choir ensemble «Silver Voice», which recorded parts for metal bands. In particular, it collaborated with «Arkona» on the album «Slovo» and took part in several of the band’s concerts. This experience, along with her long-term connection with «Arkona», became an important part of her artistic development.

Her participation in «Imperial Age» is also noteworthy. The collaboration began through choral work: Alexandra recorded choir parts, assembled vocal ensembles, and performed live with the band. Later, this cooperation evolved into a more prominent vocal role. This stage became an important professional experience and was closely connected with symphonic metal, a genre particularly close to her as an academically trained vocalist.

Work in «Meshchera»

The band «Meshchera» was formed in 2022 in Ryazan. The name refers to the historical Meshchera region - the land between the Oka and Klyazma rivers - as well as to the ancient Meshchera tribe. The core lineup includes Alexandra Sidorova (vocals), Dmitry Kokarev (guitars, vocals), Maxim Ayupov (bass), and Svyatoslav Krekov (drums).

The project was created by Alexandra Sidorova and Dmitry Kokarev after they met in the summer of 2022. From the beginning, the concept of «Meshchera» was built on combining black metal and dark folk, and the work on material developed quickly and cohesively. As a result, the band’s early releases already demonstrated a formed and recognizable sound. Alexandra’s interest in black metal was not a sudden shift: she had been drawn to the genre since her earlier projects. However, she was particularly interested in its symphonic and melodic aspects - scale, orchestration, and the contrast between beauty and extremity. Among her key influences in this area were «Dimmu Borgir» and «Septicflesh».

From the very beginning, Alexandra became one of the key figures in «Meshchera». In materials related to the debut EP «Tales of the Black Forests» and the album «Harvest», she is credited as the vocalist and lyricist, and her role extends beyond performance alone. Her contribution largely shaped the verbal, emotional, and conceptual level of early «Meshchera». Within the band, she gained a rare opportunity to combine different vocal colors within a single artistic space without dividing them by genre boundaries.

Artistic style

One of Alexandra’s defining traits as a vocalist is the combination of clean and extreme vocals. This became one of the central features of «Meshchera»’s sound: her parts merge melody, emotional emphasis, and stylistic sharpness. Clean vocals occupy a more natural and stable place in terms of technique, while extreme vocals require greater emotional output and energy. However, the key aspect of her approach is the constant transition between different techniques and states rather than staying within a single register. In this sense, «Meshchera» became a space where different aspects of her voice are revealed - from academic inserts to extreme forms of sound production.

Her vocal style is built on a broad professional foundation. Alexandra was primarily formed as an academic musician with a tendency toward operatic singing and even completed training in Germany with an opera vocal teacher connected to the Mariinsky Theatre. Her professional background also includes work on recordings of Baroque music and operatic arias. At the same time, folk, speech-based, pop, and extreme techniques were developed independently through experimentation and a constant desire to expand her abilities.

Theatricality also plays a role in her stage image. This is partly rooted in her family background: her great-grandmother was a professional dramatic actress, and among her relatives were artists and people involved in scenography and stage design. As a result, stage imagery, costumes, visual expressiveness, and performative elements became a natural part of her artistic thinking.

Thematically, her lyrical contribution is closely связана with nature imagery, historical memory, mythological motifs, and inner emotional experience. Her interest in myths, ancient history, and legendary thinking has been present since childhood and later naturally became part of her work in folk and atmospheric projects.

Main releases

Among Alexandra’s key releases with «Meshchera» are the EP «Tales of the Black Forests» (2023), the album «Harvest» (2023), «Harvest (Acoustic Version)» (2024), «Songs of Eternal Winds» (2024), «Spell» (2025), and «Legends of the Ancients» (2025). In many of these works, she выступала not only as a vocalist but also as a lyricist. After the release of the debut album, the band quickly moved into live activity and established itself as a notable project on the Russian-speaking folk/black metal scene. For Alexandra’s biography, this is particularly significant, as «Meshchera» became not just another band in her career but one of the central projects of her зрелый period.

Significance

Alexandra represents a musician who entered the heavy music scene not from an amateur background but from a solid academic foundation. Her biography combines music school, college, conservatory education, choral practice, long-term participation in various bands, experience in songwriting, and a transition to a more prominent role in «Meshchera», where she became not only the voice but also one of the people shaping the overall artistic direction of the project. Notably, classical and underground elements in her career did not conflict but developed in parallel and reinforced each other.

Considering her discography, project activity, and role in «Meshchera», Alexandra can be regarded as one of the notable figures in the modern Russian-speaking intersection of folk, pagan, and atmospheric black metal scenes. This conclusion is analytical but well supported by the breadth of her work, her presence in multiple bands, and the role «Meshchera» has played in her career.

Interesting facts

Beyond music, Alexandra’s biography includes details that shed light on her interests and personality. Since childhood, she has been fascinated by mythology and ancient history: one of the постоянных books on her desk was «Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece», and Egypt held a special place among her interests. This is reflected in one of the memorable episodes of her childhood: during her first trip abroad at the age of nine, she got lost in an ancient temple in Luxor. The experience of walking among ancient ruins left a lasting impression and reinforced her interest in mythological and historical themes.

Outside the stage, Alexandra leads a very active lifestyle, enjoys running, and regularly занимается strength training. Constant movement, numerous projects, travels, and involvement in various creative processes form a natural part of her everyday life.

Among the notable episodes of her early biography is her participation in a concert with Ennio Morricone, where she performed as part of a choir during her studies at music college.

Outside of performing, her main work is connected with advertising campaigns, primarily for musical bands, which complements her biography as someone involved in the music scene not only on stage but also in an organizational and practical capacity.

Among her characteristic personal traits are discipline, persistence, and the habit of seeing things through to completion. This quality aligns with her biography, where academic training, underground work, and participation in multiple projects developed simultaneously.
