Savage Lands - No Remedy (Official Video feat. Heilung's Maria Franz)
The threat of deforestation in Costa Rica has inspired metal musicians to unite in defense of the ecosystem.
In 2022, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and musician-activist Sylvain Demercastel founded the nonprofit organization «SAVAGE LANDS» (501(c)). Since then, their efforts have saved over 100,000 square feet of forest, and all proceeds from their debut album, Army of the Trees, go toward tree planting, nature reserves, and green zones. Partnering with the Jane Goodall Institute and leaders of the metal scene, the project proves that heavy music can change the world.
Army of the Trees brings metal stars together in an ecosystem of uncompromising sound. In The Last Howl, John Tardy’s (Obituary) vocals intertwine with Andreas Kisser’s (Sepultura) masterful solos. Kai Uwe Faust (Heilung) infuses Black Rock Heart with the mystical spirit of black’n’roll, while Maria Franz (Heilung) soars over the melancholic ballad No Remedy with her ethereal voice. Eurovision favorites Lord of the Lost bring bloody glam to Out of Breath, and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) reigns in Ruling Queen, shifting from clean vocals to a lion’s roar. The title track, featuring Julien Truchan (Benighted) and French metal titans, sounds like a battle cry: «It’s time to take a stand!»
