More info

The band IDLE HEIRS presents their debut album, Life is Violence.

The group features Coalesce frontman Sean Ingram-returning to full-scale studio work for the first time in over a decade-and producer/musician Josh Barber. Hailing from the Kansas City area, IDLE HEIRS is a tight-knit creative unit, driven by passion and the freedom to make the music that speaks to their souls.

For more than ten years, Ingram had shifted his focus elsewhere. With Coalesce on an extended hiatus, music was no longer the center of his creative life. But a convergence of personal and global events led him to a realization: music had become vital again. That’s when the idea for IDLE HEIRS took root.

This wasn’t a return prompted by the “right timing.” On the contrary-the conditions had to become unbearable, leaving only one way forward. Ingram reached out to Barber, already knowing exactly who he wanted as a creative partner. Describing himself as “a doer, not a dreamer,” Ingram made it clear: if they were going to start this project, it had to be immediate. Barber retreated for eight days to a remote corner of the Pacific Northwest, giving himself the solitude and focus to lay the foundation for what would become IDLE HEIRS' debut album.

Life is Violence was ultimately recorded at Ocean Sound studio in Norway. Free from external pressures or expectations, Ingram, Barber, and five other musicians immersed themselves in the stark beauty of the Norwegian wilderness to craft eight tracks. The isolation of the studio and the absence of distraction allowed for remarkable sonic clarity and meticulous attention to detail. The result is a post-metal album marked by a melancholic atmosphere and a striking sense of vulnerability.

Thematically, Life is Violence delves into the intergenerational weight of fatherhood-the inheritance of influence and the possibility of breaking that chain. Ingram examines the impact his father had on his life while also reflecting on his own mortality and the legacy he will leave for his children. Driven by the determination to ensure that the future looks radically different from the past, IDLE HEIRS have created a message that is both a definitive break from what was and a heartfelt ode to love.
