«Black Band Shirt» is a project helmed by veteran of the American black metal (USBM) scene, Breno Sullivan, best known for his work with Druid MA.

The original concept behind «Black Band Shirt» was to take depressive suicidal black metal (DSBM) as a foundation and push it as close as possible to the sound of pop rock. This is achieved by blending elements of pop punk, post-hardcore, post-punk, emo, shoegaze, and mainstream radio rock.

The result is something paradoxical-deliberately crafted to appeal to no particular audience. The music is too bubblegum-pop and simplistic for fans of esoteric underground metal, yet at the same time too abrasive, strange, and drenched in reverb for listeners of popular music.

Neither pure black metal, nor black'n'roll, nor screamo, nor blackgaze, «Black Band Shirt» draws influence from the wide array of Sullivan’s musical interests, encompassing these and other genres. The project creates something still heavy, atmospheric (in the vein of the «-gaze» styles), and sharp-edged, yet entirely original-both vocally and instrumentally.
