Black Death Metal is a hybrid subgenre that combines the foundation of black metal with elements of death metal. In Black Death Metal, black metal elements dominate, supplemented by characteristics of death metal. Guitars employ tremolo picking and harsh distortion, creating a monotonous and abrasive wall of sound. Blast beats and complex rhythmic structures typical of death metal are also utilized. The primary distinction between Blackened Death Metal lies in which of the two styles dominates the sound: Black Death Metal centers on black metal infused with death metal, whereas Blackened Death Metal focuses on death metal blended with black metal elements.
